Sam’s Data Club emerged as a unified, enterprise-grade solution—integrating policy, process, and platform to deliver data clarity and control from supplier to shelf.

The Problem

As the world’s largest private employer, the company struggled to scale data governance across millions of retail processes and systems. Despite having policies in place, poor data quality, silos, and compliance risks persisted highlighting the need for integrated tools and agile operations to enable trusted, data-driven retail decisions at scale.

The Strategy

To build a modular MVP with independently functioning features, enabling rapid prototyping and continuous refinement through user feedback.

The Result

  • Enabled termination of a $5M annual SaaS contract with a market leader, saving costs.


  • Created a single source of truth for data governance, now leveraged across the enterprise.


  • Successfully delivered a 0-1 product that became the foundation of Sam’s Club’s data governance strategy.

My Contribution

Defined the vision and strategy:

  • Established a clear roadmap to create a centralized data governance platform.

  • Set an aggressive goal: MVP in 9 months, full platform in 2 years.

Drove cross-functional collaboration:

  • Kicked off the initiative by aligning business, engineering, and UX teams on goals and timelines.

  • Implemented agile WoW, leveraging Jira and daily stand-ups for rapid iteration.

  • Provided quarterly LC demos to ensure visibility and executive buy-in.

Led discovery and design:

  • Conducted user interviews, surveys, and listening sessions to understand pain points.

  • Mapped out user journeys, process flows, and personas to define the ideal state.

  • Partnered with UX to prototype and prioritize features based on user needs.
