Evergreen management of data governance roles is essential to avoid accountability gaps, ensure timely decision-making, and eliminate operational inefficiencies.

Revenue delays and compliance risks don’t start at the bottom line—they start at signature. The Company rebuilt its contract execution process to move at the speed of decision-making.

The Problem

At The Club, data governance accountability was a major challenge. Key data roles—including data stewards, data owners, and engineers—had no structured way to manage their responsibilities across applications, databases, and data assets.

  • Previously, role assignments were manually tracked in SharePoint or Collibra, leading to:

  • Data ownership gaps when people were promoted, changed managers, or left the company.

  • Lack of real-time stewardship insights, delaying decision-making and governance efforts.

  • Operational inefficiencies due to manual updates and fragmented visibility.

The Strategy

To solve this, I led the 0-1 development of the Role Management System (RMS)—a centralized, automated solution that registers and manages governance roles while integrating directly with HR systems for real-time updates.

The Result

  • Eliminated lag in data governance role updates, ensuring real-time accountability and decision-making.

  • Reduced manual tracking efforts, freeing up teams from administrative overhead.


  • Enabled seamless ownership transitions, improving governance and data quality oversight.


  • Laid the foundation for broader adoption, allowing future automation and AI-driven enhancements.

My Contribution

This was a 0-1 initiative, requiring a structured approach to discovery, design, and execution.

Developed Strategy & Integration Plan:

  • Defined the vision for seamless role management to ensure accountability, automation, and scalability.

  • Scoped MVP to support Business Roles (Business Data Stewards, Business Lead Data Stewards).

  • Ensured integration into the broader Data Club ecosystem, avoiding
    redundant tools and processes.

Built the Core Platform & Workflow Engine:

  • Developed a registration process for governance roles, automatically tracking role confirmations.

  • Implemented workflow automation to distribute tasks, track SLAs, and notify users of pending actions.

  • Designed real-time data synchronization with HR systems—ensuring role changes (due to promotions, resignations, cost center shifts) were updated immediately in RMS.

Drove Cross-Functional Adoption & Future Vision:

  • Conducted training and onboarding sessions for data stewards and
    engineers.

  • Created a scalability roadmap to extend RMS beyond governance roles, supporting broader use cases across The Club.

  • Proposed a moonshot AI-driven approach to anticipate role changes before they happen, further reducing friction.
